| Quidditch |
[Nov. 29th, 2009|03:20 am] |
Like Draco said we're allowed to fly again. I'm very greatful.
I'm also working on another project or two. I am practising for duelling club a lot. It's useful to have Granger because she can be my target. I can make sure I can track her right with my hands. I'm getting very coordinated. I think it is also good practise for Quidditch.
And then Draco and I have some things we're doing together. It's fun.
The other day Mr Malfoy came to visit and we had tea. I had Granger find out whether the house elves would make the tea cakes that they made for our tea. But they won't, because they're for special occasions. People don't usually say no to me about things like that. But I think the house elves are right. Some things should be for special occasions only.
I'm starting to get excited for Christmas because that's a special occasion. I can't wait to go back to the palace. It's always all decorated. And Father wants to see me and I want to see Father. So I'm glad of that. But there's lots to do first.

| Narrow You Focus to only 1 Niche |
[Nov. 26th, 2009|07:30 pm] |
Have you found yourself considering why you are overwhelmed? There's tons of material that you'll be able to find on the web to help you with online marketing. Making an attempt to digest the whole thing at once will give anybody a case of online marketing indigestion which actually isn't good.
If you narrow your concentrate on one niche, you see that it is far easier to become an expert rather than 2 or more areas. The number of things you can do to earn income in this world is limitless. There's money to be made in the stock market, in the real estate game, and of course by owning your own business, among plenty of other methods. But the people that actually perform well in this world financially are known primarily for one thing. Work out something that you like to do and that has a market also. Run a search on a search engine and see what comes up for your area of interest. Use words that are associated with the subject and the more focused, the better. Developing a product for the field in which you excel in isn't hard because you are well informed in something that your buyers are not. They will pay big sums of money to acquire your experience. As a marketer you need to recognize that your time is awfully valuable and if you focus on too many things at one time, then more time is wasted.
Your time would be miles better spent on one single area, or niche. It will take a while for you to acquire the awareness of what your niche market demands. When you discover what it is they want make an attempt to give it to them. Giving your market something aside from what they need might end up in them removing themselves from your list or having anything whatsoever to do with you. That's why you must manage your time cleverly and figure out the demands of your audience. If you do not already have a product made to meet their wishes then create one. Remember what they tell you and use their wants as a plan that will make for an excellent information product. If you answer their questions with your products, you'll be seen as an expert by them. Becoming a qualified expert in your niche market is as easy as setting up your own blog. You may have your readers post their questions on your blog. Answer their questions about your blog and they will also start to view you in another way. If you want to learn from a great product, have a look at Internet Advertising Studio.
This can re-assure them that you know what you are talking about and that you do care about the things they have to say. Having your own blog is a good way to build a bond with your readers. That way you can introduce yourself to your market and your market can introduce themselves to you. One good way of doing this is just by being honest about your private life. Talk about your family and life on the blog and you will realize that your market is more likely to talk about their family. You now have a number of ideas to implement in your online enterprize now and the secret's to go out and do them. Doing so is seriously rewarding and you may one day learn that one niche actually can make you rich.

| Questions about the Poetry Fishbowls |
[Nov. 18th, 2009|05:55 pm] |
I've got a couple of ideas regarding the Poetry Fishbowls for which I'd like your input.
First, I know that a number of you are linking back to the "Fishbowl Open!" posts or otherwise promoting the project. Would you like me to start listing the names of people who tell me that they are doing this? It's a good way of attracting extra attention to your blog and letting people know that you support cyberfunded creativity.
Second, someone suggested in the post-mortem fiction discussion that I consider doing a piece of flash fiction during a Poetry Fishbowl, if I got a prompt that suited itself to that. I've already written a number of long narrative poems; I've also had a few prompts begin as poems and then spawn fiction later. So I think this has potential, although I don't know yet how it might evolve and I'm inclined to let it find its own way if it does. I'd like to know how you feel about this idea.

| You're making this too easy. |
[Nov. 4th, 2009|05:10 am] |
Hah, I think PJ really wants to help me lose weight because he's making it super easy to keep track of my workouts and what I eat. I'm currently using the DailyBurn app and the DailyBurn FoodScanner app to keep track of those, respectively.
I tried Lose It! on jennlynnfs's recc, and while I enjoy a lot of the features that it has (and the fact that it's free!), for some reason it's just not as intuitive or user-friendly as the DB FoodScanner app (which I think is $2.99 now, but well-worth it to me). I tested the LI! app with one of the most generic things I eat, "chicken breast", and it didn't even have that listed (or if it did, I couldn't find it :\).
Also, I was looking around at some of the other chicken options it presented me with, and a lot of them you couldn't input the weight of the meat serving to figure out your calorie consumption (which would be helpful if I'm cooking from a recipe as I often do... like if I knew my serving contained 1/4 lbs of chicken breast - how many calories are in 1/4 lbs of chicken breast? Lose It! can't seem to tell me, but DailyBurn can really easily).
But anyway, I think it helps that I already had a (albeit sadly neglected) free account with DailyBurn (formerly Gyminee). I dunno, I'm just delighted by how slick everything is and how the apps sync up with my account. It's a beautiful thing. I hope the user-friendliness of it all keeps me on track.
In related news, I'm testing out ChaLEAN Extreme at the moment. So far, it's pretty fun/not terribly bad, and I am digging that someone input all the workout info onto DailyBurn, which means keeping track of the exercises is super easy. Although I just learned that tonight's sweat session only burned about 55 calories, which makes me sad. I need to buy heavier weights and see if that makes a difference :O
Anyway, I hope this isn't just a phase. I want the coming year to be great, and for that to happen, I have to work on myself and become happier with who I am. Think positive! |

Well. Now I know why Momo is angry at me. Turns out I am a socially retarded idiot (but we all knew that anyway). Or something.
Brilliant. Excuse me while I go off and search for comfort food.

So, despite Editor trying to stay near me, I got another awards-banquet job offer from a paper that isn't hiring. I am collecting a lot of these. I told the editor in question that I expected it would take another two years for the big papers like hers to recover, and she (sigh) agreed. Ah well. It is now roughly one year since the two biggest recent changes in my life occurred: my back injury and the arrival of my housemates. But today I am relaxing alone in the tub at a hotel, where I don't have to worry about anyone else needing the bathroom. Living with housemates is tremendously better than living alone, but every so often I miss the freedom and the silence. (Both of which I had far too much of alone, but it's nice in small doses.) so I am trying to enjoy the silence tonight. Alas, I forgot my book! |

Yes, these were characteristic sounds; they brought to herrecollection a countless variety of dreadful situations and horridscenes, which such buildings had witnessed, and such storms usheredin; and most heartily did she rejoice in the happier circumstancesattending her entrance within walls so solemn! She had nothingto dread from midnight assassins or drunken gallants.
Good shooting was to be had nearAmarillo--any amount of bobwhite quail, quantities of prairie-chickens,plovers, etc. And, by-the-bye, at Fort Sumner I had all to myself thefinest kind of sport. There was a broad avenue of large cotton-woodtrees some miles in length. In the evening the doves, excellent eating, and, perhaps for that reason, tremendously fast fliers, would flash byin twos or threes up or down this avenue, going at railroad speed. |

| Grilled Avocado and Barbecue Tofu Sandwich |
[Aug. 23rd, 2009|02:01 am] |
I made both these things as kind of a rip off of some other recipes I'd seen:
Grilled Avocado Sandwich (Made 8/20/09):
Okay, it looks really weird, but it was very tasty!!!
And a Barbecue Tofu Sandwich (I like sandwiches, okay? Made 8/21/09):
Now this was the best damn thing I've ever made ever. It doesn't look too pretty, but the tofu was perfectly crunchy and the orange globs are Annie's Spread. (Thanks for telling me about it Kat! I put it on everything!) I had already taken a bite of it, then I realized how wonderful it was and I just had to take a picture. This is seriously my new favorite food. Sadly Sean wouldn't touch it. He doesn't know what he's missing.

Feeling queer, you know--confoundedly QUEER! Queer! Good Lord!"He regarded his cigar-ash for a moment. "That's all that happened," hesaid."And then you went to bed?" asked Evans."What else was there to do?"I looked Wish in the eye. We wanted to scoff, and there was something, something perhaps in Clayton's voice and manner, that hampered ourdesire.
Your questions had set me theorizing aboutmyself. And I did my best to improvise a scheme of motives yesterday. It was, I perceive, a jerry-built scheme, run up at short notice. Mynocturnal reflections convinced me of that. I put reason into thingsthat are essentially instinctive. The truth is that the wanderings ofdesire have no single drive.
""My dear fellow!--It does. Really it does. You must allow me tohave enough intelligence to think of cross-roads. Really youmust. There aren't any cross-roads to tempt them. Would they turnaside here? No. Would they turn there? Many more things areinevitable than you fancy.""We shall see at once," said Widgery, at the window.
Everybody who is not actually inthe shadow of a Bladesover is as it were perpetually seeking afterlost orientations. We have never broken with our tradition, never evensymbolically hewed it to pieces, as the French did in quivering factin the Terror. But all the organizing ideas have slackened, the oldhabitual bonds have relaxed or altogether come undone.
It seems to me this outburst of short stories came notonly as a phase in literary development, but also as a phase in thedevelopment of the individual writers concerned. It is now quite unusual to see any adequate criticism of short stories inEnglish. I do not know how far the decline in short-story writing may notbe due to that.

Theneck was simply an intricate surface of seams and wrinkles, andsun-scarred with the burning of the Desert. The Far East, the TropicSeasons, and the Desert--each can have its colour mark. But all threeare quite different; and an eye which has once known, can thencefortheasily distinguish them. The dusky pallor of one; the fierce red-brownof the other; and of the third, the dark, ingrained burning, as thoughit had become a permanent colour.
